Interview With Artist: Tammy Wentworth

What is your medium and why did you choose it?

The medium I primarily use for my jewelry is semi precious stones with Sterling Silver, Copper or Bronze. I love using materials also, that are unique - lava, petrified wood, bone, horn..... I think it's fun to have what others don't have!!! It doesn't have to be expensive - just different! I think that's exciting!

How long have you been making art?

I've been making jewelry for over 20 years. I took jewelry making classes when I still lived in Milwaukee.... I started to take it more seriously when I moved to Arizona, 13 years ago. It's still a hobby.... Something to express my love of fashion.

Where do you get your inspiration?

My inspiration is nature for the colors and the design and style of the individual pieces I'd say is fashion. One of the biggest thrills was being part of Phoenix Fashion Week, 2018. Two of my necklaces walked the runway. It was amazing!!

What does your studio look like?

My work space is a simple, small table, my assistants are my 3 Persian cats.... Each piece is thoughtfully created with their help.....

What is your favorite time of day to make art?

I'm most creative in the morning. I have the most energy at that time of the day.

Do you listen to music or have complete silence when you work?

I generally have the TV on in the background while making my pieces....

Describe your creative process.

My creative process varies. I've often thought of designs during the night. I'll get up, draw what I've thought of so I don't forget by morning and immediately go back to sleep!!! Sometimes I'll have strands of stones lying on my work surface for days...I'll walk by repeatedly and nothing will dawn on me as to what to do with them....then suddenly a plan/design occurs to me and I make it happen!

What else would you like people to know about your art?

Every piece I make makes ME happy and I hope when someone purchases a piece it brings joy and happiness every time it's worn!

Side Note: My jewelry was published in 2 magazines (both are digital and hard copy publications) - August, 2020. I-Fashion Magazine and MMM Magazine.
