Cheryl Prather
I am a painter, living in Fountain Hills, Arizona. I'm a native Arizonian, living here most of my life. I also lived in New Mexico for 18 years. The Southwest has an abundance of color and light and I love to capture it in my paintings of desert landscapes, plants, buildings and animals. Watercolor is my medium of choice. Watercolor is hypnotic, addictive, magical. It is the unique spontaneity of the medium that I find most intriguing. Photography was my first love and I love the idea of turning my photos into paintings. I paint in my studio, referencing my photographs and occasionally venturing out to paint plein air. I paint very colorfully with transparent paints and love to experiment with textures. I am self-taught and I became a full-time artist after taking early retirement. I belong to the Fountain Hills Artists League, Scottsdale Artists League, American Women Artist organization, and American Watercolor Society.
